I have to say, I didn’t think it could get much better after the release of GH2, but Guitar Hero 3 For Xbox just blew me away.  The soundtracks continue to improve and this one is far and away the best of the series yet.  It is great to see some of the tracks as recorded by the original artists too.  I was halfway expecting to see some recent covers, but they dug deep here and have lots of great originals.

Being able to play the game online was also a great plus after the last 2 additions as you can finally flaunt your skills against different competitors instead of kicking your kid brother’s butt all time.

The first time I played Guitar Hero, it was actually on a Playstation 2 system, after playing the same game on Xbox, I literally immediately went out to buy an Xbox system in anticipation of Guiter Hero 3 for Xbox being released.  I have several other titles for the game, but this is far and away my favorite.

One of the things I was a little disappointed with in the second release was the ease in mastering the game.  Guitar Hero 3 for Xbox does not suffer from that with a much higher level of difficulty hat will challenge even the best of players and keep you interested in the game for quite a long time.

A great feature of Guitar Hero 3 For Xbox is an even greater emphasis on shredding.  Playing the riffs is great, but we all want our chance to shine in the spotlight.  That is actually the feature that got me hooked on the series in the first place and one quick trip through this game had me smiling like a child on Halloween night.

I also like the fact that they have made some of the techniques such as hammering on and pulling off a little easier to do.  It is a great advantage, because some of the songs on the expert level are fast and furious and this little bit of simplicity is almost an apology from the game makers for putting a little pain into the guitar playing.

All in all, a great game that does not lose the focus of the original game that made this series so popular.  I like the fact that a beginner can pick it fairly quickly and get hammering and the hard zore player will also find it quite challenging.  If you go back as an expert player now and play one of the earlier versions of Guitar Hero for Xbox, you can rip right through the game in almost a single session.  You will not have that luxury with Guitar Hero 3 For Xbox, you better dig and get ready to shred, because it is the only way you are going to beat this game!

If you are not familiar with Guitar Hero 3 for Xbox, you have no idea what you are missing out on.  I had not played video games for quite some time.  In fact, I didn’t even have an Xbox when I first played this game.  I had an older edition of PS2 that I had totally lost interest in.

I was over at a buddy’s house and his kids had this game fired up and when challenged, you of course cannot back down to a teenager.  It wasn’t long before the kids were chased out of the room and we all sat around like a bunch of aging rock stars jamming away on the game.  I was so hooked on the game I went out and purchased my own Xbox just so could play the game anytime I wanted to!

The game itself is a great compilation of original tracks featuring bands that we can actually relate to.  Some of the other versions were loaded with covers, but this version went for originality as I think they realize who this game is more successful with, us aging rocker wannabees!  The game is also packed with upgrades that are available through your internet connection and is a great upgrade from Guitar Hero 2.

Guitar Hero 3 For Xbox has a lot of special features that simply set this game apart from earlier versions.  Lots of new modes and the online playing is finally introduced to take you game to layers of all levels on the net.  In some ways, this game is actually a little easier to use for a new player, while experts will find that their level of difficulty has been increased.  It is the perfect all around game.

There are also significantly more cheats built into this game than earlier versions.  While I usually like to work my way through the game to get things unlocked, some of these cheats are unattainable unless you actually know the code.  It brings some great features to an already incredible game.  Knowing the cheat codes will actually make this a much more enjoyable game.

Guitar Hero 3 For Xbox is far and away one of the most entertaining titles you can buy for Xbox and is definitely the best of the series so far.  Titles often lose their roots as the series continues on, but it looks like Guitar Hero 3 for Xbox has learned that you have to stick with what got you there in the first place.

01 Nov 09 Guitar Hero for Xbox: Becoming a Master at Guitar Hero 3

It is no secret that Guitar Hero 3 for Xbox is a very addictive game.  More than likely, you have played some of the earlier versions, but you will find that to become a master player at this game, it is going to take a bit more effort than the previous titles. Lucky for you, I am about to spill my secrets so you don’ t have to go through the same frustrations that I did when I was first learning how to play at the higher skill levels.

The mistake a lot of people make when they first start playing Guitar Hero 3 For Xbox is that they try to take on too much without really mastering the basic principles of learning how to play the guitar controller.  This is one game that you actually need to approach like the real thing.  You have to train each hand and let them know what they are supposed to do and then you can combine them.  You have to get your finger work down before you can move on to the higher levels.

In all honesty, the easy level will get you thinking that you can just jump in and make it happen, but to master the game, you will need to master the techniques of the advanced levels.  The only way to truly do that is to practice and perfect hand by hand.

You should also take the advancement of levels at a slower pace.  I know when I first started playing I breezed right through the easy level, struggled a little bit with the medium level and then got murdered on the expert levels.  I had actually just put the game away until one of my buddies shared some of these tips with me and within a few weeks, I was shredding like a master!

I would also suggest that you take a friend along for the ride when you are trying to beat the expert levels of Guitar Hero 3 For Xbox.  It is a lot easier to achieve something when you have someone else pushing you and giving you a little bit of support when you start missing those harder notes.

When you are playing alone, it is pretty easy to get frustrated and just put the game away.  When you are playing in co-op mode, you are playing for both you and your friend and that little extra bump may be all you need to put you over the top in Guitar Hero 3 for Xbox.
